Why a funding cut-off exists at all

Money itself can move fast. The Reserve Bank's New Payments Platform, launched in February 2018, lets payments reach the recipient in near real time, 24 hours a day, and the RBA's high-value settlement system runs from 7:30am to 10pm Sydney time on business days. What slows a business loan isn't the payment rail — it's the people and steps in front of it.

Before a lender can pay out, someone has to finish the assessment, issue the offer, receive signed documents, verify identity, register security where property is involved and book the settlement. Those steps happen inside business hours, and for most lenders and solicitors that means east-coast business hours. Miss the window and the funding usually rolls to the next business day.

Daylight saving runs from 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026 to 3am on Sunday 4 April 2027 in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT. Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory keep standard time, so their gap to Sydney widens for six months of the year. For a Perth business in summer, a noon cut-off in Sydney is 9am at home.

If you're in the west or the north, enquire as early in your day as you can — or the afternoon before — so the east-coast team has the whole of its business day to work with. Our Perth, Adelaide and Darwin pages go into the local detail.

How to use the checker

  1. Pick your state. The panel shows how much of the 9am–5pm east-coast business day remains right now.
  2. Choose a planning cut-off in Sydney time. The checker converts it into your local time, so you know when signed documents should be back.
  3. Use the converter to test "if I send everything at 10am here, what time is it in Sydney?"

Weekends and public holidays aren't business days. Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday and Boxing Day on Saturday, with a substitute holiday on Monday 28 December in most states — plan any year-end funding well before then.

Beat the clock with preparation

The fastest files are the ones where nothing is waiting on the borrower. Have ID, statements and property details ready (the documents checklist builds the list), make sure every signer is reachable, and enquire early. There's no credit check to ask, your details go to one team rather than a crowd of lenders, and a real person will tell you the actual cut-off for your file. Accurate answers on the form — especially your state — help us plan the timing properly. See if you qualify.

Frequently asked questions

Why does east-coast time matter for same-day funding?

Most lenders, solicitors and settlement teams work Sydney and Melbourne hours, and property settlements are booked during the business day. If your documents arrive after the east-coast afternoon has gone, the funding usually rolls to the next business day — no matter what the clock says where you are.

When does daylight saving start and end in 2026–27?

Daylight saving starts at 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026 and ends at 3am on Sunday 4 April 2027. NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT change their clocks; Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory don't.

How far behind Sydney is Perth?

Two hours when Sydney is on standard time and three hours during daylight saving. From October to April, a 9am start in Perth is already noon in Sydney.

Do bank transfers settle on weekends?

Payments through the New Payments Platform (the system behind PayID and Osko) can move in near real time, 24/7, when both banks support it. But lenders disburse loans on business days after documents are signed and conditions met, so weekends and public holidays still pause most funding.

Is the planning cut-off a guarantee?

No. It's a planning assumption you choose, to help you work backwards. Each lender, solicitor and settlement has its own timing — a specialist will tell you the real cut-off for your file.
